BLACK LIVES MATTER

We believe Black Lives Matter. Summer Search stands together with you in the fight against systemic racism and oppression in this country. Read our full statement on our blog »

When we, as an organization, began having conversations about race, privilege and power, it wasn't just for us to discuss our strategy or best practices — it was also for moments like this. We knew then that when police brutality occurs, our communities are often hit the hardest, the same can be said for COVID-19, economic collapse, and white supremacy. We intentionally decided that we needed to understand how to move differently as a collective to support our communities that we know are vulnerable and routinely preyed upon.

We're seeing Black folks from around the country mourning, taking action, and trying to heal. At this time, we can’t avert our eyes to the realities that are laid in front of us — we must bear witness. There is no cookie-cutter solution, but there are ways to take action.

Below is a list of ways to contribute to the organizing work that's taking place in our communities, for our causes and resources for deepening our learning. It's important that in this time, we not only check in with each other, but also with ourselves to care for our spirit as we move through this together.

For Tony McDade:
Unfortunately, we have not identified a reputable organization requesting donations or actions on behalf of Tony McDade, a Black trans man in Tallahassee, FL killed by police. This may be a symptom of the erasure that too often invisibilizes the suffering of our trans community.
